Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I apply for more than one program, so that if I am not successful for my first choice, I may still be considered for a second option?
A: No. The Selection Panel will already have plenty of applications to assess. Please prayerfully consider what is the best option, and submit that as your application.
Q: Can you give me an example of what kind of courses would or would not be considered suitable?
A: CMA will soon be compiling a list of possible courses. However, by way of example, here are a few institutions that offer courses that WOULD fit the criteria: Mt Eliza Executive Education in Victoria; The Hauser Centre for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University; The Australian Institute of Company Directors; Regent College in Vancouver. Some examples that probably WOULD NOT fit the criteria might be: a TAFE course; a short course on how to be a better preacher; a public conference; an internship offered by your local church.
Q: If my application is not successful, can you tell me why so that I can resubmit it?
A: No. Due to the expected volume of applications, the Selection Panel will not be able to issue explanations for why specific applications were not successful.
Q: If my application is not successful, can I apply again next year?
A: Yes. Each year, all applications will be assessed on their merits.
Q: Although I have been involved in ministry leadership previously, I am not employed at the moment. Can I still apply for a scholarship for a course that I know will enhance my ability to lead in the future?
A: You may apply, however it is highly unlikely that you would succeed, because it is important that applicants are able to put in practice what they learn. If you are not currently employed, you would be very limited in your ability to meet the criteria, 'Are strategically positioned to put in practice what they learn for the furtherance of the Gospel in Australia'. You would have to address that aspect of the criteria in a very compelling way for your application to have a chance of success.
Q: I am part way through a university degree. Can I apply for a scholarship to complete the program?
A: It is unlikely your application would be successful. The Scholarship program is intended to make high-level leadership training possible for people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to access it. Being part-way through a degree program indicates you have already made a commitment based on your understanding that you have the means to complete it.
Q: I represent an organisation that is a sponsor, or donor, or member of CMA. Does this create a conflict that would reduce my chances of success?
A. No. CMA has deliberately kept the board and staff at a distance from the selection process, for this very reason. Having a selection panel at arm's length from CMA Board and staff ensures that applications will be assessed on their merit, and ensures that there is no risk of either favouritism on one hand, or disadvantage on the other. |
